TOPIC : How important is packaging ?
Ironically, very few Indian companies give Packaging due credit or importance. Packaging is today the most potent marketing tool available.
The reasons for this are:
It is the most important means of product differentiation.
It is the best way of providing brand or corporate identity.
It is what makes a brand or product stand out in a veritable jungle of competing brands or brand variants.
It is the only communicator with the consumer at the all-important point of purchase.
In the consumer’s mind, the package quality is the indicator of product quality.
Package graphics and innovation design influences in the purchasing decision.
Packaging innovations have helped to substantially increase sales volumes.
In other words, it is Packaging that has made all the difference in many markets. It is time for people to realise how important the Packaging really is and give it due attention.

Re: Re: How important is packaging ?
Yes, I agree with Trade India editor regarding packaging.
You are aware the concept of packing is getting very important after the emergence of retail chains in India especially with regard to food items. Export houses are able to give high quality packing with competitive prices. What about SMEs? They are not in a position to afford a separate packing division with meagre investments. So, it is time for all the concerned people to address the SMEs problems to make India more competitive in the world markets.
Regards,
VCK Rao.

Re: How important is packaging ?
It is generally observed that Indian manufacturers/exporters do not realize the importance of packing. Like mentioned by the TI Editor, it is the direct doorway to get into end user's attention and create a brand identity and concept of quality supplied within the package.
Most of the manufacturers try to ignore this factor by giving more importance to the product but fail to give due importance to packing, resulting into terrible aftermaths when product reaches the shelves.
While in transition period, say when the product is being transported, a weak packing will result into damaging of products, which loads up insurance and else. This escalates the cost of products too.

Re: Re: Re: How important is packaging ?
For SMEs problems as Mr. Rao has indicated. These type of SMEs can very well adapt a method to get the packaging material done outside at a reasonable cost. Sivakasi offers world class packaging material made to order. We are also dealing with many SMEs and they somehow manage to get the packaging done as a jobwork. in India everything is possible. even one dealing in just waste products also becomes millionaire if properly sourced. Right?
