Q. What is the mechanism inside a door handle called?
Answer
It is called
latch. In fact latch is the mechanism that slides into the narrowness of the
door and retracts or protrudes when the door knob is turned. The latch keeps
the door closed and when the knob is turned allows the door to open. A lever
handle carries the similar function as a door knob though it has a different
appearance.
