Included in this category are operations including joining and assembly deformation removal of material heat treatment and finishing. Welding soldering brazing and other forms of permanent or semipermanent fastening are all examples of joining and assembling procedures. Several different techniques can be used to deform a material such as bending curling punching rolling deep drawing and ironing. For this they make use of plastic deformation in which material is shaped by the application of compressive forces beyond its yield stress. Strips of metal can be prepared for use in a variety of ways but the most popular are hot rolling and cold rolling.
