Q. What is a rack bolt?
Answer
Rack Bolts are an additional layer of protection for exterior doors. In most cases, they are morticed into the top or bottom edge of the door, and the bolt extends either upward or downward into the frame. Rack Bolts are often sold along with an Escutcheon, which serves as a cover for the hole that is drilled into the face of the door in order to accommodate the Rack Bolt Key. Rack Bolt Turns may be installed in places that get a lot of usages. This is a little knob that has the key spindle connected to it and fits into the bolt. It is fixed to the face of the door with screws in a manner that is similar to that of a Bathroom Privacy Turn.
