Q. What does the lamp post represent?

Answer

The lamp post represents the Neverending light of holiness that comes from Heaven. A cigar can be nothing more than a cigar, as the old adage says. For all I know, the lamppost was just a random sighting in Narnia's enchanted forest and had no deeper significance. After Lucy stepped out of the wardrobe and into Narnia, she walked 10 minutes across the snow to the lamppost. Interesting fact: Edmund forgot to shut the closet door and Lucy used the light shining within as a guide. As a result, Edmund became separated from the group and lost in Narnia. However, Lewis is a symbolist at heart, so it's possible he gave his mental image some further meaning while writing.
