In the 1890s these instruments were marketed and sold as electrical lighters and later on they were referred to as Zigarrenanzünder in the major German warehouse catalogues.It's likely that they were rebranded as "cigarette lighters" in the 1920s when cigarettes began to outsell cigars for the first time. They are normally called lighters.
