An individual should adhere to a few basic rules to reduce the likelihood of injury: maintain a free roll with the paint facing out. The painted side of the canvas should be rolled up. Paint that is applied heavily or has a lot of texture is more likely to wrinkle if it is rolled up with the painted side facing in. Keep the artwork from being firmly rolled. Get a larger-diameter tube if the plan on mailing the artwork. One to wrap the canvas around to prevent it from being crushed in transit and another to store the rolled-up painting in are both recommended.
