Q. How is iron rod made?
Answer
Materials including coke iron ore dolomite and limestone are heated in a blast furnace before being treated with hot gases. Iron in its liquid condition undergoes a series of processes before being transformed into steel. Finally ladle heating is used to further purify the steel's chemical composition. Hematite is the most common iron oxide ore followed by limonite (brown ore) taconite (red ore) and magnetite (black ore). Pig iron the basic material needed to create steel is produced by continuously feeding the blast furnace with processed iron ore coke (the waste left after burning coal without air often containing up to 90% carbon) and limestone (CaCO3) or burned lime (CaO).
