Q. How is ferric alum made?
Answer
Ferric alum is a chemical that can be prepared by the process of crystallization of a solution of ammonium sulfate and ferric sulfate. Ferric sulfate is obtained when iron present in the ferrous sulfate gets oxidized to iron in ferric sulfate with the addition of nitric acid and sulphuric acid. A Ferric alum is an alum that contains iron. It is basically Ammonium Iron (III) sulfate. However, when we say non-ferric alum, it means that it is a pure form of ammonium sulfate and the composition does not contain iron.
