All high-quality canvases have the same characteristics including being securely wrapped having a nice solid construction and using high-quality materials. If you're looking for a decent canvas make sure it's taut but not so tight that it tears in the corners. Uneven canvas stretching is the worst! Student canvases (which may be purchased for $1–$3) or the precut inexpensive canvases sold in packs at art supply stores are good for experimenting. It doesn't matter how big or little because this is all good fun. If someone is looking for something that won't take up too much room in the closet canvas boards are a fantastic alternative.
