Answer

Surgical masks do not protect against breathing in very small particles such as dust or mould because they do not fit tightly to the face allowing air particles to leak in around the edge of the mask. The surgical masks are designed to stop liquid droplets and aerosols coming out of the wearer’s mouth not filter the air coming in.
