Heat pump technology operates according to the refrigeration cycle, with an electrically powered compressor used to drive the flow of refrigerant from low to high pressure. An expansion device is situated between the high- and low-pressure sides to reduce the pressure again.
Pressurized refrigerant which is hot passes through the heat exchanger and gives heat to water. The liquid is warm and is passed through expansion device to relieve pressure. The liquid becomes cool and is routed through the evaporator to absorb heat from out side air. The warm gas is compressed again. The hot gas is again sent to the heat exchanger. The cycle repeats.
