Remusatia Hookeriana

Prefers shady slopes and moss covered rock faces and frequently grows on trees with its corms covered in moss and leaf humus. Flowers in late spring before the leaves are produced. Sometimes flowers along with the newly developing leaves. Leaves are not distinctively coloured along the veins. Underside of leaves are dark purple to light purple. Flowers are fragrant and have a comparatively small spathe. Corms produce stolons that grow to some length and then produce masses of bulbils (tiny tubers) which are wind dispersed in winter.

Best grown in a free draining rich organic compost. Leaves fall off in autumn and once the tuber has matured, a dry cool winter dormant session gets the tuber ready to being its growth cycle again in spring.

Habitat: This is a widely distributed species with its homeland ranging from the cool mountains of Northwest India through to Sikkim.

Ethnobotany: The blade portion of very young flower buds eaten in villages in a form of curry or deep fried crisps.
