A pancake load cell, also known as a shear web load cell or low-profile load cell, is a type of force sensor characterized by its flat, disc-like shape. This distinct geometry makes it ideal for applications where space is limited and a high degree of accuracy and stiffness is required.

These load cells typically operate on the principle of strain gauges bonded to a precisely machined metallic body (often stainless steel or aluminum). When a force is applied, the body undergoes minute deformation, which is detected by the strain gauges. This change in electrical resistance is then converted into a measurable electrical wave proportional to the applied force.

Pancake load cells are renowned for their excellent non-linearity, hysteresis, making them suitable for demanding industrial and laboratory environments. They are commonly used in weighing systems, material testing machines, press and assembly force measurement, and Inline force measurement.
