Helix Test Strips

Helix Test is a simulator test for monitoring the load with a worst case scenario. The test includes a Medical Device Simulator also called as a Process Challenge Device (PCD), which is a Tef lon tube which is 1500mm long with an internal diameter of 2mm which is open at one end only. The closed end of the PCD consists of a capsule inside which the indicator is mounted. The PCD with the indicator is then placed in the most difficult area inside a sterilizer and the process is run. At the end of the process a color change in the indicator to its end color signifies the meeting of sterilization parameters inside the PCD, which is also the worst place in a load.

The indicator used for the helix test is such that a color change to the end color is seen only if the time of exposure and the temperature combinations are met in the presence of moisture. Each indicator strip is labeled with details of the combination of temperature and time, in the presence of moisture, required to effect a clearly discernible color change. The strips have an adhesive backing to help in proper documentation.

The Helix test strips for steam conform to EN 8675, while the Helix test for EO conform to EN ISO 11140-1 (part 2+5)
