Automotive Engine Valve
Automotive engine valves provide the requisite control system to let the air fuel mixture inside the engine cylinder and to force the exhaust gases out at correct timings. Simply put, engine valves are essential in all automobiles to ensure fuel efficiency, engine longevity etc.
Automotive valves are used in engines of all automobiles, whether it be passenger cars, light trucks, heavy duty and commercial vehicles, motorcycle or recreational vehicles etc. Due to automobile engine valves being susceptible to high thermal stress and chemical corrosion, a wide range of materials and geometries are used in the design of these valves. Furthermore, owing to people's requirement of fuel efficiency and increased awareness about environmental pollution from fuel emissions, automotive engine valves are designed now days with much more care and the minutest attention to detail than ever before.

An Overview of Automotive Engine Valves and their Working Process
In automobiles, the engines are fitted with mechanically operated valves for both inlet as well as exhaust. The automotive engine valve consists of a disc of metal along with a co-axial stem on one side. The coaxial stem closes a circular opening in a wall separating the two chambers.
For opening the automotive engine valve, a force needs to be applied in a direction contrary to the spring pressure. Earlier automotive engine valves were automatic, however with the passage of time it was realized that automatic valves cannot be used in vehicles because the vehicle engines operate over a wide speed range, thus resulting in a lack of volumetric efficiency when automatic valves are used.

There are some factors which result in the malfunctioning of automotive engine valves, these factors are
Affect of erosion, corrosion and wear on the valves
Affect of high temperatures
Affect of fatigue
All automotive engine valves should be periodically checked for the aforementioned three factors, if any cracks or abnormalities are found, then the valves should be serviced immediately. Failure to do so might result in irreversible damage to the valves and probably also to the engine.
