उपयोग	Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication used to treat a variety of fungal infections. Some of its primary uses include: Fungal Infections of the Skin: Ketoconazole is used topically (in creams, shampoos, and lotions) to treat conditions like athlete's foot, ringworm, jock itch, and seborrheic dermatitis (which causes flaky, red skin on the scalp). Systemic Fungal Infections: Ketoconazole is used orally to treat more serious systemic fungal infections such as blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis, and chromomycosis. These infections affect internal organs like the lungs, skin, or other parts of the body. Treatment of Fungal Infections of the Nails: It can be used to treat fungal infections of the nails (onychomycosis) when topical treatments are ineffective. Cushing's Syndrome (Off-label Use): Ketoconazole is sometimes used off-label to treat Cushing's syndrome, a condition where the body produces too much cortisol, as it inhibits the enzyme involved in cortisol production. Seborrheic Dermatitis and Dandruff: Ketoconazole shampoo is commonly used to treat seborrheic dermatitis (which leads to flaking, itching, and redness of the skin, particularly on the scalp) and to control dandruff. Important Notes: Ketoconazole is typically used when other antifungal treatments (like fluconazole or itraconazole) are not suitable or effective. Oral ketoconazole is less commonly used due to potential liver toxicity and drug interactions, and it is often replaced by newer antifungal agents. It should be used under medical supervision, especially when taken orally, to minimize side effects and ensure effectiveness.
