Fungal Infections in Immunocompromised Patients: It s used to prevent fungal infections in patients with weakened immune systems, including those undergoing chemotherapy or organ transplants. 3. Preventive Use: In people with compromised immune systems, such as those undergoing chemotherapy, bone marrow transplants, or HIV/AIDS patients, fluconazole may be used to prevent fungal infections. 4. Other Fungal Infections: It can be used to treat other types of fungal infections, such as Blastomycosis, Coccidioidomycosis, and Histoplasmosis. Fluconazole works by inhibiting the growth of fungi by interfering with the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. |
