Q. Why are hospital curtains green?
Answer
The hospital curtain original bed linens and staff attire were both white but one day in 1914 a powerful doctor decided to abandon this custom in favour of the green and later a blue uniform. The issue is that if surgeons look away from the dark colour of blood and toward their coworkers' scrubs an immaculate white colour can temporarily blind them. The reality is that in the visual light spectrum green - blue are opposites of red and during surgery a surgeon almost always pays attention to red hues. As a result wearing green or blue clothing increases a surgeon's sensitivity to various red hues while also enhancing their visual acuity. As a result it enables them to focus more intently on the subtleties of human anatomy greatly decreasing the risk that they will make an error during an operation. Additionally during an operation the blue or green bedclothes make blood readily apparent.
