The applications of the shaper and the wood planer are both kinds of cutting tools. The shaper and the wood planer are both single-point linear cutting tools; however, the shaper handles far less work than the planer does. The biggest shaper machine has a cutting stroke of 36 inches and can process up to 36-inch components, while the planer may process several tonnes of material. The wood planer is able to handle larger workpieces; in fact, some planers are capable of processing components that are as long as 50 feet.  A shaper can only use one cutting tool at a time. On the other hand, the wood planer is a fixed planer, which means that the workpiece must be moved closer to the planer in order to perform the cutting process. Multiple cutting implements may be used in concert by a planer at once. The planer machine is more rigid and has better accuracy, in contrast to the shaper machine, which has less rigidity and a lower level of precision. Despite the fact that both the wood planer and the shaper move and cut in the same direction, the time spent on the return trip is a waste of time. However, the time spent on the return process may be significantly decreased to be equal to twice the cutting stroke.
