Q. What substance is used to make switch boxes?
Answer
In a switch of superior quality the conductors of the switch box would most likely be made of copper and coated with silver. Aluminum will be used for the construction of the versions with a lower price tag; however the "contact button" will be made from a more expensive and highly conductive material. In a good switch the insulating parts will be made of thermosetting plastic or ceramic. Thermoplastic on the other hand is used in inexpensive switches. If you want to create one and I'm going to presume that this is the goal of your query you can use wood as the foundation and you can make a basic conductor out of copper strips that have been hinged together. However this switch should not be used with the mains voltage. It is generally accepted that voltages up to 50 volts are acceptable but based on my own experiences I believe that a fair top limit for exposed wires would be 24 volts. You must take precautions to avoid giving yourself or anybody else a potentially lethal electrical shock.
