Q. What is the distinction between an ebonite and a glass rod?
Answer
In the same way that a rod of ebonite would become negatively charged after being brushed with fur a rod of glass will become positively charged after being stroked with silk. Therefore according to the rule of static electric charges oppositely charged things attract one another. Ebonite rods get negatively charged when touched with fur whereas glass rods become positively charged when stroked with silk material. Thus they will be drawn to one another. This brings closer proximity between an ebonite rod brushed with fur and a glass rod rubbed with silk material. The two will be attracted to one another.
