Fabricated from Polyethylene Terephthalate it is a kind of polyester film (PET). Films are often installed on the inside of a building's or vehicle's windows. For added film security they're coated on the outside with a scratch-resistant material. Window films come in a wide variety of styles. Others are colored with metals dyes or pigments to diminish visible light transmission through the glass and prevent heat from the sun; yet others are transparent and comprise numerous layers of PET to provide protection against shattering glass. Even frosted glass and engraved patterns may be imitated with ornamental window films.
