Q. What is an Analgesiometer?
Answer
An analgesiometer called a hot plate is used to assess the peripheral angelic activity of rats. It has its foundation in a principle that responds to the heat sensitivity (Tolerance) of rodent paws. Even though the hot plate meter includes a setting that allows the temperature to be adjusted to whatever level the user desires, the standard setting for measuring pain sensitivity is 55 degrees centigrade. The exact temperature of the plate is kept under control by the electronic thermostat that is integrated into the hot plate meter. The temperature may be seen on a large digital screen. Additional protection for the researcher is provided by the plexiglass enclosure that sits above the thermal plate. The built-in timer and foot switch of the hot plate meter allow it to function. A built-in timer helps to accurately preserve the cut off time, which refers to the amount of time that a rodent's paw is in touch with the thermal plate. It avoids any more injury to the biological tissues of the rodent.
