Q. What is a HART communicator?
Answer
Access to data from smart field instruments can be gained using the HART protocol which is a two-way form of communication. A host can be anything from a technician's mobile device or laptop to a process control asset management safety or other system in a facility. Two HART-enabled devices usually a smart field device and a control or monitoring system exchange data with one another. Reliable communication is ensured through instrumentation grade wire and established termination techniques. The principal measured value (PV) is transmitted via the power supply cable as an analog current measurement typically 4-20mA.
