In order to get the appearance of having the smoothest skin possible, it is best to use lighting that is frontal, flat, and generated from a power source. There will be less of an appearance of little blood vessels if the light has a redder hue to it. This is another factor that will aid. This may be accomplished using the light coming from a large window on a cloudy day. Use a very big softbox or a shoot-through brolly in the studio, moving in close and circling in front of the subject. This light is going to make the skin seem better. However, the resulting photographs will not come out very well looking since the face is better defined with some shadows.
