Ikkat sareers have intricate geometric designs that are employed by the resist-dyeing technique known as Ikat. In Indonesia Ikat also means ‘knot’ or ‘to tie’. Nowadays Ikat describes the process and the cloth itself irrespective of where the fabric comes from. In India it is famous as Pochampally Saree or Pochampally ikat.
