A sherwani is a type of ethnic clothing. Men in South Asia often wear a long-sleeved coat called a sherwani. Due to its opulence and sophistication a traditional sherwani is one of the most popular types of ethnic clothing. Noblemen of Turkish and Persian descent once wore the sherwani to court because of the respect and honor it represented. It is the traditional male garment of Pakistan. It has a fitting silhouette with a little of waist suppression like the Western frock coat and it falls just beyond the knees with buttons down the front. Wear it collarless with a regular shirt collar or with a stand-up collar like a Mandarin shirt.
