Q. Is it safe to use brass utensils in everyday cooking?
Answer
For cooking, it is not advisable to use brass because the salt and acidic compositions that are present in the food can react with brass on heating. Hence it is not a safe approach to use brass utensils. There can be zinc leaching in the food and this can be harmful as there will be a release of fumes of zinc oxide leading to the formation of corrosive tarnishing.
