Q. Is it necessary to cover a cut with cotton bandages?
Answer
Squares of sterile gauze are typically used for this purpose. Since cotton wool is made up of loose fibers some of them could get stuck in the wound and prevent it from healing properly. Some of the most common wound dressings are sterile combination dressings with an attached bandage and are designated as BPC or BP because they are included in the British Pharmacopoeia. A bandage can be made out of whatever is at hand in a pinch. A user may use a bunch of face tissues or any other clean non-fluffy material to make a big pad and use it to staunch the bleeding. A piece of clean plastic kitchen wrap can be used as first aid for a mild burn or scald.
