Q. Is it better to frame painting?
Answer
Just frame it if it's on wood or panel. An oil painting often does not need a frame. If it's on canvas and doesn’t care about the frayed edges (many artists paint the edges so it looks fine), hang it up and enjoy it. When displaying canvas artwork for extended periods of time, framing is recommended to prevent not only the edges and corners but also the canvas's structural integrity from warping. Just keep in mind the end goal, and well on the way to success. Consider the current style of the home (is it mostly wood, stone, warm, frigid, sterile, or cozy?) and the frames already have that enjoy using as starting points for the search.
