Q. Is graphite harmful to humans?

Graphite is not a very toxic substance. There could not even be any symptoms. If symptoms do appear they can include stomach pain and vomiting which are both signs that a bowel obstruction is present (blockage). When the victim swallows the pencil they risk choking to death.
