Q. Is earth clamp negative?
Answer
When the earth cable with the earth clamp is connected to the positive pole (+) of the power source and the clamp cable with the electrode holder clamp is attached to the negative pole (-) a straight polarity connection has been made. The electric arc focuses the molten metal towards the target melting it. This is how the electrode's molten core is deposited and injected into the welding junction. It is called a reverse polarity connection when the earth wire with the earth clamp is connected to the positive pole (+) and the clamp cable with the electrodes holder clamp is linked to the negative pole (-) of the power source. The tip of the electrode is where the electric arc's tremendous heat is concentrated.
