Q. Is baking with parchment paper safe?
Answer
Parchment paper may be safely heated to very high temperatures in the oven. If the paper catches fire it won't do any harm or emit any harmful chemicals. In general don’t subject parchment paper to heat that's greater than 450 degrees. However on rare occasions this liner is recommended for use in bread and pizza ovens operating at temperatures up to 500 degrees. Indeed parchment paper is preferable to foil for roasting veggies. Some metal may be leached into food when using aluminum foil for cooking according to recent research published in the International Journal of Electrochemical Science. Silicone-based parchment papers that have not been bleached are non-toxic and can be used for food preparation.
