Q. Is accidental consumption of ointments harmful?
Answer
It is unlikely that adults will consume ointments but highly likely that children can accidentally consume ointments if not kept out of their reach. The degree of harm, however, depends on the type of ointment. For example, ointments used for killing fungus on infected skin may contain more harmful ingredients than a general moisturizing lotion. Therefore, it is recommended that parents should make sure to safely store ointments out of the reach of children.
