These are:First and foremost, it is important to position the target for measurement.Inspect the surface of the target visually.If the sampling length is represented in the figure or pictorially, the user needs to set the sampling length, λc (cut-off value).  If there is periodicity in the roughness profile, one needs to estimate the RSm parameter. Use sampling length for its determination.However, if it is not periodic, one needs to estimate Ra, Rz, or RSm which are unknown parameters. This can be done with the help of a primary profile.Check whether the parameters are within the values of the threshold limit obtained from the measured result.
