Ferrous sulphate needs to be taken on an empty stomach. However if it gives you stomach ache take it with food. Most people who suffer from iron deficiency feel better after taking ferrous sulphate within two weeks. You need to swallow the tablet or capsule whole with a glass of water. But you should not suck chew or keep the tablet in your mouth as this can cause mouth ulcers or stain your teeth.
