Q. How can I replace a belt tensioner?

Answer

Ideally it is best to let your mechanic handle this work of replacement of the belt tensioner. However replacing a belt tensioner is not difficult. First make a rough sketch or take a snap of the belt assembly and routing. Rotate the tensioner to unload the belt. Take off the old tensioner from the car engine and place the new one there. Now the mounting bolts have to be torqued to one-third of the recommended installation torque in a Y pattern and check for alignment. Now tighten it to full torque as specified by the car manufacturer. Rotate the tensioner to its correct position to load the belt.
