Ointments are use for a variety of purposes including for moisturizing dry skin, soothing skin burns, treating ultra dryness or flaking of skin due to eczema or psoriasis, healing cuts and scars, and healing wounds and injured body parts. Ointments can be classified into four general types, such as Absorptions bases, Hydrocarbon bases, Water-soluble bases and water-removable bases. Some notable examples of ointments are Topical steroids, which are used for treating inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema; Moisturizers including Eucerin, Vaseline and Aquaphor; and Antibiotics encompassing neomycin sulfate, bacitracin (Neosporin), and polymixin B sulphate among others.
