Conventional neon lighting uses roughly 20 watts per hour per square foot. LED neon tubes are the same length yet only require 1.2 watts of power to illuminate for the same amount of time. Most neon signs use little more than.8 amps or eight-tenths of an amp. This is almost the same as the power needed to light a single bulb which is 96 watts. If leaving the neon sign on all day every day it will only cost around 20 cents in electricity. The financial efficiency of displaying this much advertising is proportional to the number of signs the firm puts up but the results are undeniably attractive.
