About Us

In
India, the art of carpet weaving developed due to the encouragement and
patronage of the Mogul rulers, especially Akbar the Great who had
artists and artisans sent from the Persian court. Since then, two
places have established as the most prominent centre for this art of
carpet weaving- Kashmir for its finest quality silk, and Gwalior for
its royal traditional art. Besides the glorious Persian tradition of
carpet weaving, the artists in Kashmir and Gwalior gradually developed
novel designs which better suited the taste and need of the region.
Generation after generation, this art became an integral part of the
culture of the people of these regions. Subsequently, the Indian
carpets began to be acclaimed worldwide for their unique designs and
unmatched quality.

At Mayur International, we
have become a part of this mission- to keep the glorious Indian
tradition of carpet weaving alive, and introduce it to the widespread
