Arteether Injection

Arteetherinjection is used to treat severe falciparum malaria. It is effective against P. falciparum strains resistant to chloroquine, halofantrine, mefloquine, quinine, pyrimethamine, cycloguanil, and amodiaquine. The drug alpha/beta arteether is also used to treat complicated falciparum malaria. It is an ethyl ether derivative of artemisinin, a natural substance derived from the Chinese medicinal herb Artemisia annua. In severe instances of malaria, it is used as a second-line treatment. Arteether is made in two formulations: Alpha and beta arteether which were approved in India in 1997 for treatment of both children and adults diagnosed with severe malaria. These injections should be stored at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Unless otherwise checked in the package insert, do not freeze these medications. Warnings and Precautions for Arteether Injection:

• The product must only be administered intramuscularly.
• The loading dosage should be split evenly and injected anteriorly into both thighs, with each consecutive dose injected into alternate thighs.
• Artemotil has not been tested for the treatment of severe malaria in individuals with pre-existing renal or hepatic failure.
• Use arteether with caution if you have a medicine-induced fever, if you have heart problems, or if you have drug resistance.
• Contact your doctor right away if your symptoms do not improve, you are unable to eat, or you experience fainting spells.
• Do not drive or operate machines and equipment.
• Do not discontinue the medication.
• Finish the whole course of treatment as recommended.

• Manage blood tests each week.

Expired Arteether Injection:
