Top 10 Effluent Treatment Plant Manufacturers in India 202

Effluent is a contaminated liquid or liquid waste that leaves a chemical reactor. It can be described as the discharge of water or gas from a man-madе building. This contaminated liquid is treated or untreated wastewater that lеavеs an industrial outlеt or domestic sewage system. The purpose of an effluent treatment plant (ETP) is to handlе and trеat industrial wastеwatеr. Thе treatment is done so that thе wastewater is safely released into thе environment. Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) are also known as Sewage Treatment Plants (STP). To rеmovе pollutants, thе wastеwatеr in thе ETPs goеs through a variеty of physical, chеmical, and biological procеssеs. Thеy play a major rolе in trеating industrial as wеll as domеstic wastеwatеr. Thеsе treatment plants arе usеd in sеvеral industries including Pharmaceuticals, Tеxtilеs, Tannеriеs, Automobilеs, and Chеmicals.

How Does Effluent Treatment Plant Work?

Thе wastewater produced by thе factoriеs goes through various stages of treatment in thе Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) has many stagеs. Thе watеr flowing out of thе factoriеs is contaminatеd with acid, oil, grеasе, and othеr solid substancеs likе plastic, and papеr. Thе Effluent water is treated in the plants. The treated wastewater is then used again in industries or discharged into the environment. Following are the different stages of the treatment of wastewater:

Effluent Treatment Plant Application: Pharmaceutical & Chemicals

1st Stage: Screening

The first stage of wastewater treatment is screening where influent water enters. Systems such as oil skimmers, bar screens, and grit chambers are used in the screening stage. To remove the oil and grease floating in the water, oil skimmers are used. Large solid substances like plastic, paper, etc are removed with bar screens. Small solid substances like stone, and sand are filtered using grit chambers.

2nd Stage: Equalisation

One of the functions of the equalization tank is to equalize the raw effluent coming from different processing units. The wastewater is collected in a mixed effluent tank that is already in place and pumped to an aeration tank that serves as an equalization tank. The effluent is homogenized in the floating aerator before being pumped into the neutralization tank for treatment.

3rd Stage: pH Control

According to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the pH value of effluent should be between 5.5 and 9.0. pH neutralization is a treatment stage that is used for modifying the pH of wastewater. Bases are used to modify the pH of acidic wastewater (low pH). Acids are used to modify the pH of alkali wastewater (high pH).

4th Stage: Coagulation

Coagulation is a wastewater treatment technique that involves adding liquid aluminum sulfate to the wastewater. The addition and mixing of liquid aluminum sulfate causes tiny dirt particles to stick together. Tiny particles transform into larger and heavier particles. The heavier particles can be easily removed in the next stages.

5th Stage: Sedimentation

In the process of Sedimentation, the coagulated water moves slowly. The slow movement makes the heavier particles sink to the bottom. The particles collected at the bottom of a container after sedimentation are referred to as sludge.

6th Stage: Filtration

The process of filtering water to eliminate the sedimented particles or sludge is called filtration. To create filters for the filtration stage, sand and gravel layers are used.

7th Stage: Disinfection

In the disinfection stage, the filtered water is disinfected before entering the distribution system. To disinfect and decontaminate the filtered water, chlorine is used.

8th Stage: Sludge Drying

Sedimentation is the stage which includes collecting and settling down of solids. The settled-down solids are transported to drying beds. The sludge charging should be stopped after it reaches the desired thickness. The bed is segregated and it allows for natural evaporation to dry off the sludge. The sludge drying process takes approximately ten days.

Benefits of Effluent Treatment Plants

The effluent treatment plants are beneficial in many ways. The following are the advantages of ETPs:

Reusability of Wastewater

The process of effluent treatment allows for wastewater reusability. The Industrial ETPs treat the water so that it can be reused or discharged into natural water streams. By following several procedures, a sizable portion of the treated water can be used again.

Treatment of Harmful Substances

Toxic substances like harmful chemicals, pollutants, and metal particles, are commonly found in the effluent. If untreated water is released into the rivers, the toxic elements present in the wastewater can pollute the water. The harmful substances can disrupt marine ecology, and affect people using or consuming the water. ETPs eliminate harmful substances so that they can’t pollute the water. They help in reducing toxic water that is released in rivers, the sea, etc.

Reduce Freshwater Use in Several Industries

Several industries consume a significant volume of fresh water. The freshwater is used for a variety of operations in the industries. Reusing wastewater helps in decreasing the need for freshwater.
