Pharmaceutical Medicines

PharmaceuticalMedicines are those medicines that are formulated for the treatment of various types of ailments, sickness, and diseases in human. It includes all forms including capsules, tablets, syrups, and injections. What is the basic purpose of medicine? The basic purpose of medicine is to eliminate the source of certain health problems in human body. The medicines work by either treating completely the source of the illness or controlling their symptoms. For instances, antibiotic medicines either kills the bacteria causing the specific health problem or preventing their proliferation in the body so that it does not spread to other parts. Here, the medicine worked to stop the problem caused by the bacteria but another medicine is to be administered to treat the manifested illness in human body.

Forms of Pharmaceutical Medicines

Medicines are administered to sick persons or individual down with some symptoms. However, the medicines are manufactured in different forms for certain reasons. Leta s take a look at some of the forms of medicines:

Tablet a A Tablet is a solid form of medicine compressed into a circular form. First the mixture is prepared into powdered form of different ingredients of a particular medicine and then the powder is compressed into solid tablet form. The size of the tablet depends on dosage requirements of a particular medicine. The size or dosage is described in mg (milligram).

Capsule a Capsule is a shell or casing that is hollow inside to protect or contain medicinal excipient. The term encapsulation, which means completely covering, is a proper word to describe capsule. Capsules are made with gelatine, which is an animal protein extracted collagen. Therefore, capsules encapsulate medicinal substances inside that work fast upon oral administration. Capsules come in two main types:

• Hard-shelled capsules a these are meant for encapsulating dry, powdered medicines or miniature pellets manufactured through extrusion. They are made in two parts: one with smaller diameter and the other with larger diameter for snugly sealing. The medicine is kept inside the smaller diameter part and capped with the bigger diameter part.
• Soft-shelled capsules a These capsules are principally manufactured for keeping active ingredients dissolved in oils, gels or oils. These capsules are also called soft gelatine capsule.

Injections a Injections are meant for directly injecting into body with the help of a syringe, cannula or through a saline. These are thin liquid solution in which the main medicinal ingredients are dissolved. The injections are meant to be administered on the body through the muscle or veins. The intravenous (IV) injections are injected into the vein while intramuscular into the muscle. The IV injections directly mix with the blood and provide quick relief from particular symptoms.
