FAQs Related to Allopathic Medicines
The basic difference between the two
methods of treatment is that allopathy is a modern form of medicine whereas
homeopathy is an ancient form of medication. Since allopathy is a a modern form
of medicine, people who practice allopathy are legally not allowed to prescribe
homeopathic medications to their patients.
In allopathy, all drugs go through several
rounds of trials before they are permitted to be produced commercially. All
allopathic medicines that are available in a pharmacy or drugstore have been clinically
tested and proven to be of no harm to humans prior to administering them to
patients.
All allopathic medicines should be stored
in a cool and dark place, protected from light and moisture.
It is advised not to refrigerate allopathy
medicine unless the pharmacist, label, or package insert advises refrigeration
after opening of the medicine.
Based on the type of drug the manufacturer
chooses to make, the licenses required may vary. However there are six types of
drug licenses including drug manufacturer license, multi-drug license, loan
license, import of drug licenses, retail drug license and wholesale drug license.
Having said that certain drugs may require specific licensing too.
No. Once the allopathy medicine has passed
its expiration date there is no guarantee that the medicine will be safe and
effective as it was before the date of its expiration. So it is highly
recommended not to use any medicine that has expired.
Every allopathy medicine goes through
stability testing and the expiration date of a drug is estimated based on these
findings. Under good manufacturing practices as determined by the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) typically allopathy medicine has an expiration date that is
usually from 12 to 60 months from the time of manufacturing.
Allopathic medicines come as tablets,
capsules, liquid, topical medicines, suppositories, drops, inhalers, and
injections.
The different forms of allopathic medicine
– liquid or solid are based on the drugs’ composition, strength, and how it is
supposed to work on a certain ailment. In case of liquid/ syrups, the active
part of the medicine is combined with a liquid to make it easier to take and is
better absorbed. Meanwhile in case of solid allopathic medicine like a tablet
or capsule, the active ingredient is combined with another substance and
pressed into a solid shape which could be round or oval.
