If you ever
visited a rice mill you would have seen a set of machinery for different tasks.
Have you ever wondered how impurities such as small stones, traces of mud, soil
particles are separated rice or wheat? For removing soil particles from the
wheat stock the conventional methods is to wash it thoroughly and left to dry
in the sun. However, this method only removes the soil particles and not the
stones. Nevertheless this technique cannot be applied to rice. So, to deal with
the problems of impurities, such as soil particles, small stones, and mud a
Destoner is used. It is a machine that uses grain specific gravity to separate
these impurities from wheat, rice, coffee beans, and paddy.
A Destoner comes
in different sizes and design depending on the application requirements. It
contains a vibrator motor that vibrates rice or wheat fed into the machine.
Through this vibration the lighter material gets separated and filtered through
a large sieve attached to the machine.
Manufacturers
design several types of Destoner including connecting type destoner machine and
vibratory destoner. These machines are equipped with webs for removing the soil
particles and stones. When the machine starts, the stone gets attached to the
web while the soil particles fall through the web. The stones move further to
be collected in a boulder box. The smaller stones are taken to a trench with
the help of a cross conveyor while the bigger stones are collected in a boulder
box.
Structure
of Destoner
A Destoner consists
of mainly feed hopper, aspirating hood, a machine stand, a sieve box, an
eccentric driving mechanism and some other components. In the machine a special
rubber bearing is used for the hinge joints of the machines reciprocating
oscillation mechanism. The rubber bearing can absorb strong vibration and
ultimately protects components and parts from abrasion or friction with each
other. Rice or other grains are fed though the feeder hopper which moves to the
sieve box. When the machine starts it moves the sieve in reciprocating
oscillation which leads to separation of impurities from the grain. These
machines use different size of the mesh of the sieve to sift the impurities and
collect in the sieve box. While operating the machine the slope angle could be between
10o to 14o to regulate the flow of the grain.
