Solvent black 5 is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, benzene and methyl benzene, oleic acid, stearic acid. Blue black in dense sulphuric acid and blue precipitate after dilution, brown purple precipitate with NaOH.

Applications :-
Solvent Black 5 is recommended for coloring for leather shoes oil, carbon paper, plastics, making spirit wood stains, black marking inks and spirit finishes for leather, and printing inks. It is also used in U/F stoving lacquers.
