Principle of a Barrel Pump
The operating
principle of the barrel pump is quite simple. The top opening of a drum is attached
with a narrow tube, which has a vertical shaft. The pump contains a small motor
attached to the shaft that runs on an AC or DC electric motor.
The electrical
switch attached to the motor makes it turn on and off. The base of the pump
helps in the pumping mechanism, which pulls the liquid. The rotor or pump
impeller attached to the base works on centrifugal force. Even the old barrel
pumps are also operated by hand by using a crank.
