Key Features
It is a pale yellow brittle solid, non-conductor of heat and electricity. It is insoluble in water. It has 3 forms: Rhombic - it melts at 112.8C
Monoclinic - it melts at 118.7C
Crystalline Sulphur dissolves in carbon disulphide.
It burns with a pale blue flame in air or oxygen forming sulphur dioxide mainly & a little sulphur tri-oxide. It is also known as Native Sulphur & is recovered from Sulphur bearing rocks which contain about 20% sulphur & other impurities like Clay, lime-stone, sand & gypsum. All these impurities are removed by 'liquation process' to get Rock sulphur in pure form (98-99.5%).
