Basmati rice (usually referred to as the king of rice) really is an important (i.e. staple) food around the globe. • Grain Texture: After cooking, the grains stay fluffy and separate after cooking, never sticky.

The global demand for Basmati rice continues to grow due to its high-quality, health benefits and many uses. In 2024, India has exported >4.5 million metric tons of Basmati rice and generated billions of foreign exchange reserves for the country.

India has continued to demonstrate that all of its rice, including Basmati, meet the various international quality standard certifications i.e. ISO, HACCP, BRC, etc., which also contributed to its high demand in the world.

Nutritional Characteristics of Basmati Rice

It is frequently assumed or conjectured that all types of white rice are starchy and deficient in nutritional value, however, Basmati rice is a better nutritional choice because:

• High Fiber Content (brown/unpolished) Basmati Rice: Basmati rice is high in fiber which is often good for digestion and gut health.
• Low Glycemic Index: Basmati rice has a glycemic index (50 - 58) below that of normal white rice, therefore a better food choice for diabetic individuals.
